Colour Battle

Does anybody else find all the animosity between Avril Lavigne's fans and haters annoying and unnecessary?

If not, well, too bad, I do. So if you don't want there to be a truce, if you don't want to read my suggested terms, please leave.

Now. On to business.

I have to say that I haven't seen it this bad in awhile. Most likely because Avril tries to be punk and pop at the same time, which brings about the clash of the two self-categorized social groups ("preppy" and "punk," or, as the so-called latter of these two groups would say, "real punks" and "posers") in a way that, say, Britney Spears wouldn't because she is undeniably and shamelessly the epitome of only one.

At my online diary's host alone, I've seen so many examples of this rivalry, this colour battle, and it becomes more prevalent as one journeys further and deeper into the world wide web. So many pro-Avril sites are littered with flames that call Avril a poser, a teenybopper, and a shame to the "punk" label she claims, and the webmaster a poser for supporting the young artist. Likewise, many anti-Avril sites are flamed with, "avril rulez u suck! ROCK ON AVRIL!!!", and similar sentiments, occasionally, even, in better English. Basically, what goes on here is that people who like Avril and people who hate her can't seem to just accept their opposing opinions and leave each other alone.

My personal opinion on Avril is not relevant, and so I will not share it. And don't assume that you can figure it out by my tone, because I've been very careful to remove myself from that vulnerability. I will say, though, that I quoted the words "punk," etc., primarily because I don't believe in labels at all, not necessarily because I don't believe she fits them as well as any other; and that the condescending tone I seem to take is directed at the dumber chunk of Avril's fans, not at the singer.

Some are intelligent fans of Avril's music and personality. But so many (and I stress, not all) are brainwashed airheads, whether or not they realize it. These are the ones who claim Avril converted them to non-conformity - then piggyback her style by buying the same bracelets and ties as her; the ones who actually believe Avril's music is punk and listening to it makes them the numero-uno punk rocker.

Now is the time for mean comments from you assholes that didn't understand what I was trying to say with this rant. Actually, specifically for those of you who meet this criteria, I'll sum up what I've said as all I was trying to say:

1. Avril's fans and haters ought to just accept each other's opinions and leave each other alone.

2. Some (not all) of Avril's fans are annoying little posing sheep.
